Database Administrator

Leapfrog Online is seeking a Database Administrator who will be responsible for administering all Leapfrog Online database servers, interacting with other internal groups to develop and maintain database-driven applications within the company, and interfacing with external trading partners to exchange business data.

Responsibilities include:
• Maintain the hardware, software and storage infrastructure for all database servers.
• Maintain and implement policies and procedures regarding data security/access, retention/destruction and backup/restore functions.
• Tune and configure database servers for best sustainable performance.
• Develop and maintain database schemas for data warehousing and reporting applications.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the LFO-wide ETL system software.
• Continually develop skills in database optimization, data replication and other DBA duties as pertains to the above responsibilities.
• Continually develop skills as a member of an agile development team.

Our ideal candidate has:
• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or 5+ years experience as a database administrator. Certifications a plus but not necessary.
• Experience with PostgreSQL 8 required. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2008 a plus.
• Experience with data warehousing techniques and concepts a plus.
• Experience with fault-tolerant, high-availability relational database installations (SAN data storage, server failover configurations) a plus.
• Exposure to Agile Development or the Scrum project management methodology a plus.
• Thorough understanding of database server software installation, performance configuration/tuning, data replication techniques and routine database maintenance processes.
• Thorough understanding of relational database/schema design, SQL queries and query optimization, and stored procedure development, especially as applied to PostgreSQL database software.
• Thorough understanding of data extraction/transformation/loading (ETL) techniques and processes.
• Proficiency in at least one general-use programming (C, C++, Java) or scripting language (Perl, Python, Ruby, Tcl, PHP).



• Ability to work independently as well as work in a team environment
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving, dynamic environment
