Brief Description 

Yelp has a lot of computers, and we need people practiced at reading the matrix to help us manage them. We're looking for system administrators of all levels to participate in the journey of building out our systems and network infrastructure. You'll have a pivotal role in designing and implementing key systems, and you'll be doing it in a fast-paced environment where everything counts--security, reliability, scalability, and many other -ities and -ilities.  The ideal candidate has touche.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot site issues
• Ensure system and network security
• Develop custom tools and automate processes
• Document system design and procedures
• Network operations skills: configuring firewalls, routers, and switches
• Participate in on-call rotation
• Coordinate with IT team on corporate systems and network

Requirements

• Experience with Linux/UNIX system administration
• Solid understanding of fundamental protocols and technologies like TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP, DNS
• Experience with configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, CFEngine), monitoring (Nagios), trending (Ganglia), network design, and backups
• Strong scripting skills in any common scripting language available on Linux.  Yelp is a Python shop, but we try to treat all Turing Complete languages equally
• Knowledge of best practices related to security, performance, and disaster recovery
• Excellent communication skills
• A sense of humor!

Pluses

• Advanced knowledge of network design, management of Cisco network equipment, or BGP
• Knowledge of C and kernel internals
• Experience at a large-scale consumer internet site
• CentOS and Ubuntu distribution familiarity, deb, and rpm software packaging
• Experience with cloud services like AWS
